Navigational Safety Management

The Port of Larne fully complies with the requirements of the The Port Marine Safety Code. The code was introduced by the Department of Transport, Local Government and the Regions and requires UK port authorities to discharge their powers and duties in line with the standards set out in the Code.

The Code summarises the legal duties and powers of harbour authorities relating to marine safety. It aims to promote best practice and serves as a framework for the preparation of policies and plans by harbour authorities in consultation with local users and other interests.

The Code is based on the concept that duties and powers relating to marine operations in ports should be discharged through a Navigational Safety Management System which is based on Formal Risk Assessment.
