Cruise Larne

Glenarm

Just 20 minutes from Larne is the picturesque village of Glenarm, one of the oldest towns in Ireland.  Its harbour dates back to the 15th century and while it was once filled with trading and fishing boats, today it has been developed into a modern marina.

However, fishing has not been forgotten by the lobster and crab fishers and the Glenarm Salmon Farm. Glenarm is also world-renowned for Steenson’s jewellery. Ireland’s leading designer jewellers, Bill and Christine Steenson, have located their workshop for their exquisite craft in Glenarm.  Their visitors' centre is a must visit for anyone with an eye for unique and stunning jewellery.

The other jewel in the crown of the village is Glenarm Castle, with its very own resident ghost!

Glenarm Castle

Castle Turrets have been a feature of Glenarm since Medieval times and although the castle has been through many trials and tribulations which have seen it burned down and rebuilt, it is still a lived-in castle and very much home to the existing owner, Viscount Dunluce, the 14th Earl of Antrim.

A tour of the Castle grounds incorporates the spectacular walled gardens while the Castle can be explored with the help of guided tours.

Carnfunnock Country Park

Carnfunnock Country Park, on the outskirts of Larne, is packed full of exciting and unusual attractions, with over 473 acres of mixed woodland, colourful gardens, ponds, walking trails, beaches and coastline, not forgetting its spectacular panoramic views of the Antrim Coast and North Channel.

The majority of attractions are open from Easter to September but a few remain open all year (see*). Its modern Visitor Centre offers reception facilities, tourist information with a gift and coffee ship. For the younger generation the Acitivity Centre with its outdoor adventure playground *, crazy golf, putting and outdoor games, provide hours of fun.

The Maze, sculptured in the shape of Northern Ireland, will fascinate, entertain and bewilder while the minature railway will delight both young and old alike.

Visit the Walled Garden* with its unique sundials where band concerts are held every Sunday in the summer or go on a forest walk*. For the more active, enjoy a round of golf on the challenging nine hole par 3 golf course or try the permanent Orienteering* course.

For those interested in staying longer, the 28 berth Caravan and Camping Park reopened in June 2005 after substantial refurbishment. With educational facilities, beautiful scenery and BBQ/picnic spots - there is no better place to visit.
